Lessons from losing files
- A free host deleted hundreds of thousands of our files that nobody had watched for weeks when our paid plan lapsed. Keep a record of each video’s original source so you can restore automatically.
- Never build on signed or expiring links (URLs with
expires=,md5=or tokens in the path). They work today and die tomorrow. - Host your own thumbnails as WebP. Image servers of free hosts go down for hours.
- Restrict embeds to your own domains in the host’s settings, and add each new domain.
