Growing Your Own Adult Subreddit: Posting Automatically the Allowed Way, and Turning Views into Members
Running your own subreddit is one of the few ways an adult site can own a piece of Reddit: your rules, your posts, your links in the sidebar. We run one subreddit per site. Posting daily turned out to be the easy part. The hard part showed up in the statistics: plenty of views, very few people joining. Someone sees a clip in their feed, watches it, and moves on without ever looking at the community it came from.
This guide covers both halves: how we post every day without breaking Reddit’s rules, and what we changed to convert viewers into members. The conversion changes are recent, so treat them as a tested plan rather than proven numbers; we’ll update this post with results.
Part 1: posting without getting banned
Don’t automate a login
The usual shortcut, a script that logs in as your account and posts, breaks Reddit’s terms and is the quickest way to lose the account and every subreddit it moderates. We decided against it early.
Use Devvit, Reddit’s own app platform
Devvit lets developers build apps that run inside Reddit and are installed on a subreddit by its moderators. An app installed on your own subreddit may post there on a schedule. That’s what we use:
- A small Devvit app installed on each of our subreddits.
- Our server prepares the day’s posts (a clip, a title, the link to the full video) and hands them to the app through its settings.
- The app posts three times a day at set times, adds a comment with the full-video link, and never repeats a clip.
It took some engineering, but the result runs every day without anyone touching it, inside Reddit’s rules.
Titles that don’t get removed
- Describe what’s in the clip (“blonde trans babe rides on the couch”), not your site.
- No words that hint at minors or non-consent, ever, and avoid slurs many niches still use as keywords. Reddit’s filters and moderators react to both.
- Put the link to the full video in a comment, not in the title.
- Mark everything NSFW.
Keep the queue fresh
One bug cost us several days of silence: our queue counted every “offered” post as waiting forever, so once it was full, nothing new was added and the app had nothing to post. If you build a queue, expire old entries. And generate titles early in the day: we used free AI models for titles, and by afternoon their daily quotas were used up, so every title fell back to a template. Morning runs fixed it.
Part 2: turning views into members
A viewer joins when they see a reason to come back. We looked at what adult communities with high join rates do and at advice from webmaster forums, then built these in.
1. Make the subreddit look alive and useful
- A clear description: what’s posted, how often (“new clips every day”), and that full videos are free.
- Sidebar widgets: a “Join us” button, links to the site, our Telegram channel and Bluesky account, and a list of our other communities.
- A pinned welcome post explaining the same in one paragraph.
2. Ask, at the right moment
The comment under every post links the full video, and adds one line: new clips every day here, on Telegram and on Bluesky. People who clicked to watch the full video are the ones most likely to want more.
3. Send your other audiences to Reddit
Our sites already pushed visitors to Telegram. Now Telegram pushes back: every few days our channels post a short invitation to the matching subreddit, rotated with other tips so it doesn’t feel like spam. Bluesky accounts do the same weekly, and every profile bio links the site, the Telegram channel and the subreddit.
4. Build a web, not a funnel
Every channel links every other: site → Telegram → Reddit → Bluesky → site. A visitor who arrives anywhere can find the rest, and each platform’s audience becomes the others’ audience. It also means losing one platform (a banned channel, a removed subreddit) doesn’t cut you off from your audience.
What to measure
- Members per 1,000 views per week, from the subreddit’s insights. That’s the number these changes are meant to move.
- Clicks to your site with UTM parameters on every link (
utm_source=reddit), in Google Analytics. - Brand searches in Search Console: people who learn your name on Reddit search for it later.
Checklist
- Never automate a login; use Devvit on your own subreddit, or post by hand.
- Write descriptive, safe titles; full video in a comment; NSFW on everything.
- Description, sidebar buttons, a welcome post.
- One-line invitation in every comment; Telegram and Bluesky invite to Reddit and back.
- Measure members per 1,000 views weekly.

Frequently asked questions
Can I automate posting to my own subreddit?
Yes, with a Devvit app installed on your subreddit, which is Reddit’s own developer platform. Scripts that log in as your account break Reddit’s terms and risk the account.
Why does my subreddit get views but no new members?
Most views come from people’s feeds, and they never see the community itself. Give them a reason and a prompt to join: a clear description, sidebar links, an invitation in comments, and invitations from your other channels.
Are adult subreddits allowed?
Yes, if marked NSFW and within Reddit’s content policy: adults only, consensual, and you must have the right to post the content.
