Adult Site Launch Checklist: The First 48 Hours
A new adult site gets one chance at a clean first impression with search engines. Most of the problems we have had to fix on our own sites were set up wrong on day one and only noticed weeks later, when a search console finally reported them. This checklist is the order we now launch in.
Before you point the domain
- Check the domain’s history. Look it up in the Wayback Machine. A previous owner’s spam, link-trade scripts or affiliate redirects leave junk backlinks and bots that keep calling old URLs for years. Plan redirects or
410 Goneresponses for the worst of them. - Decide on one hostname. Either
wwwor the bare domain, with a permanent redirect from the other. Search engines treat them as two sites otherwise. - HTTPS end to end. If you sit behind a CDN, use a proper origin certificate and strict mode. An expired origin certificate on one of our sites quietly broke every request that bypassed the cache.
robots.txt and sitemaps
- Keep
robots.txtshort: allow everything that should be indexed, list your sitemap, and block only things like internal API paths. - Serve
robots.txtas a plain 200 every time. We once had it answering304 Not Modifiedto a search engine’s conditional requests indefinitely, and it kept reporting “robots.txt not found” for weeks. - Generate sitemaps automatically, keep each one under the size limits, and make sure every child sitemap actually returns URLs. An empty child sitemap shows up as an error in every console.
- For video sites, add a video sitemap (title, thumbnail, duration, content location). Use absolute thumbnail URLs; relative ones make the whole entry ineligible.
Search consoles on day one
- Google Search Console: verify the domain property through DNS and submit the sitemap index.
- Yandex Webmaster: verify and submit. For many adult niches, Yandex will send traffic long before Google does.
- Bing Webmaster Tools: you can import from Google Search Console in one step.
- Naver and Seznam if your audience includes Korea or the Czech Republic.
- IndexNow: put the key file in place and ping new URLs as you publish them. Yandex, Bing and Seznam all read it. If several of your sites share one key and one server IP, they also share one rate limit, so batch the pings.
Analytics that tell the truth
- Install analytics, but also keep your raw server logs. Adult sites get enormous amounts of bot traffic and analytics alone won’t show you that.
- Create short tagged landing paths for every profile link you will place elsewhere (clip platforms, upload tubes, Telegram). One redirect per channel, each adding
utm_source, lets you see exactly which channel sends real visitors. - Don’t defer the analytics script by many seconds to save speed. One of our sites “lost” most of its visitors overnight; the visitors were fine, the delayed script simply never ran for anyone who left quickly.
Pages that crawlers can reach
- Every video should be reachable through normal links within a few clicks. An A-Z browse index is the simplest guarantee.
- Thin pages hurt. Category, tag and performer pages should only exist once they have enough videos to be useful; empty ones should return a real 404.
- Make sure missing pages return a real
404, not a “not found” message with status 200. Soft 404s confuse every search engine. - Thumbnails should be your own files on your own domain, ideally WebP. Hotlinked thumbnails from other hosts break whenever those hosts change.
Bot protection that doesn’t block search engines
CDN “bot fight” features can block search engine crawlers along with the junk. Test your site as a crawler after enabling any protection: request a page with a search engine’s user agent from outside your server and check you get a normal page. Better still, protect the server with sensible rate limits and caching rather than by blocking crawlers outright.
After launch: the weekly ten minutes
- Check each search console for new errors.
- Count real search-referred visits per day from your logs.
- Spot-check five random video pages as a visitor: does the video play, does the ad show, does the page load fast on a phone?
